A native of Brooklyn, NY Diarra Cummings received her early education at the Professional Children’s School and The Dance Theatre of Harlem School where she studied on full scholarship. She began teaching the Pilates Method in 2008, following a career as a professional dancer touring the U.S. with The Dance Theatre of Harlem, Garth Fagan Dance, Alpha Omega Dance Company, and Sidra Bell Dance. While earning her B.A. at Columbia University, Diarra completed her teacher training through The Fitness Guru Teaching Lab Pilates Apparatus Certification (Lawson Harris) and earned additional certifications in pre/post natal Pilates (Brigitte Arle/Rooted Boston), Complete Clubs (Pamela Warshay/Sage Fitness) and Progressing Ballet Technique (Marie Walton-Mahon). Diarra is also a faculty instructor at Steps on Broadway since 2022.
Combining classical and contemporary Pilates exercises – as well as an understanding of the body gained from over 12 years of working with hundreds of clients – Diarra has developed her unique teaching style based on clear queuing, kinesiology, and visualization in a challenging-yet-judgement free zone. Responding to popular demand, she founded Snatched Fitness NYC in 2018 to help connect all people to the strong, supple, and SNATCHED bodies that they deserve.

Pilates Mat Classic: A sequenced flow of traditional pilates exercises emphasizing key principles of concentration, control, precision and breath work. Appropriate for all fitness levels. No equipment needed.
Pilates Mat Props: Pilates exercises incorporating one prop of your choice – Pilates Magic Circle, Small Ball (9 inches), small pillow or one standard yoga block. Integrating props into a pilates workout provides additional resistance to further challenge your stability, alignment and control.
Pilates Mat Sculpt: Pilates exercises incorporating one pair of *free weights (2-3 pound weights suggested). Benefits of light weight lifting include an increase in cardiovascular activity, improved muscle strength and low risk of injury.
Pilates Mat Foam Roller: Pilates exercises utilizing a **foam roller (standard size 36” of any density). The foam roller can aid in relieving muscle tightness, correcting alignment and increasing joint range of motion.
*Canned food or water bottles can substitute as weights.
**A bolster pillow or rolled up blanket can be used to simulate a foam roller.
Each class can be taken without props, so don’t feel obligated to buy anything! All you need is your body and enough space to lie down safely on the floor.

Indian Club Swinging Classes

A modern take on Indian club swinging with a Pilates approach. In this series of open level classes, we will learn traditional swinging patterns and choreographed combinations that will strengthen and stretch the arms and back, improve hand grip and shoulder range of motion and challenge coordination and trunk stability. Club swinging is a safe, low impact full body workout appropriate for all fitness levels with a wide range of applications – from injury rehabilitation and functional fitness training to overall body conditioning and improved athletic performance.
Club swinging was originally practiced in India and Persia for thousands of years, adopted by the British army in the nineteenth century and developed further as the practice spread across Europe and The United States.
One pair of one pound oak clubs (available for purchase at https://www.revolutionclubs.net) or a pair of 33oz. plastic Perrier bottles (refilled with flat water).
SFNYC online mat class packages can not be applied to club swinging classes, which must be purchased separately.
